The design for a compact site is influenced by the ocean just steps away and the client's priority of a comfortable sanctuary reminiscent of the years they spent living in Japan.
The clearly organized living spaces draw upon innovative layouts discarding convention of form to reflect contemporary patterns of use. This can most clearly be seen in the shoji screened lower floor, which allows for spatial possibilities depending on mood and living requirements.
Roof access and apertures cut into the envelope provide a pleasant year round living environment that captures the essence of place.
